Let’s Trust Texans

A plan to give Texans the power to directly vote on the laws that affect their lives.

Putting Power Back Where It Belongs - With the People

In Texas, we pride ourselves on independence, freedom, and personal responsibility. But when it comes to shaping our laws, too many Texans feel like their voices stop at the ballot box on Election Day.

The Trust Texans Initiative is about changing that.

Amelia’s day one proposal would give Texans the power to bring issues directly to the ballot through a voter-led initiative and referendum process — ensuring that when our elected leaders don’t act, the people still can.

What This Means

Right now, Texans cannot directly propose or vote on new laws or policies through a statewide ballot initiative. That power rests solely with the legislature.

The Trust Texans Initiative would:

• Allow citizens to propose laws or policy changes by collecting a required number of voter signatures

• Enable those proposals to be placed on a statewide ballot

• Give voters the final say on issues that matter most to their communities

Why It Matters

This isn’t about partisanship, it’s about accountability and trust.

When people feel unheard, disengagement grows. But when people are trusted with real decision-making power, participation increases, communities strengthen, and government becomes more responsive.

Texans deserve:

• A direct voice in the policies that shape their lives

• A system that holds leaders accountable when they fail to act

• A government that reflects the will of the people — not just the priorities of a few

Rooted in Texas Values

Texans don’t wait around for permission to solve problems. We step up. We build. We lead.

The Trust Texans Initiative is grounded in that same spirit:

• Trust in individuals

• Respect for community voices

• Belief in self-governance

This is about reimagining the relationship between people and government — not as something distant or top-down, but as something we actively shape together.

A Brighter, More Participatory Future

As an educator, small business owner, and community member, I’ve seen what happens when people are given the tools and trust to lead — they rise to the occasion.

The Trust Texans Initiative is how we bring that same belief into our democracy.

Because the future of Texas shouldn’t just be decided for the people — it should be decided by the people.
